World Rhino Day

In honor of World Rhino Day, join us to learn about rhinos at our zoo and in the wild! There will be crafts and games for the kids, educational biofacts, keeper talks, and items for sale, and all proceeds go to the Houston Zoo’s rhino conservation efforts.

Our rhinos will be receiving a treat as well! See the rhinos investigate some special enrichment items in their habitat.

Join the Houston Zoo and the University of Houston Alumni Association at the Zoo’s cougar habitat to celebrate the University of Houston’s mascot, Shasta VI’s, birthday! Birthday party guests will learn all about cougars, participate in kid-friendly activities, and be able to sign Shasta’s birthday card! Look for the activities at the cougar habitat.

Join us for special themed birthday Meet the Keeper Talks presented by Phillips 66 with Shasta at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and wish Shasta a very Happy Birthday!

Animal Encounter: Behind the Scenes at the Avian Conservation Building

Animal Encounters are experiences you can book ahead of time to add an extra-special memory to your Zoo visit. This exclusive experience is limited to just six people per experience. If you have fewer than six in your party, you may be joined by other registrants, not to exceed six persons total.

Join us in the first ever Houston Zoo behind-the-scenes tour of our Avian Conservation Building. Learn stories about what our keepers are doing in the wild to save birds as well as a fun opportunity to feed our chickens.

Member Morning with the Lions

On the first Saturday of each month, Members can enter the Zoo one hour before opening to the general public. Enjoy cooler weather and see the keepers prepare enrichment and animal areas all around the zoo.

Each month, a different Meet the Keeper Talk (Presented by Phillips 66) is featured at 8:30 a.m. exclusively for Zoo members. Hear from one of our Zoo’s experts and gain professional insight about the featured animals. Learn from the best in the field about what it really takes to care for the diverse animals that call the Zoo home!

This event is always FREE for Zoo Members, and there’s no need to RSVP – just show up and enjoy!

Educator Workshop: Making Science Meaningful with Project-Based Learning

You'll receive a 6 credit hour CPE certificate; either 6 hours of Science credit or 6 hours of GT credit at the completion of the workshop.

In this workshop, you will experience inspirational strategies for students to learn science content while building their 21st Century skills through a project-based learning lesson focused on wildlife found at the Houston Zoo.
