Educators Night Out: Spotlighting Texas Wildlife

What do Houston toads, Attwater’s prairie chickens, and black bears have in common? They are all part of our diverse Texas wildlife and the Zoo works with other organizations to help save them in the wild. Join us for a one of a kind evening to learn about local wildlife, participate in hands-on, STEAM activities, and learn how you and your students can help these animals in the wild.

Ever heard of the Waugh Drive Bat Bridge? Come with us to see it! We will venture to Buffalo Bayou Park at Waugh Drive to explore some of the walking trails and then watch the emergence of one of the largest resident Mexican free-tailed bat colonies in Texas!

Cub Scout Overnight: Ecosystems!
October 19, 2018

Dates offered: October 6, 12, & 19
7 p.m. until the following morning at 9 a.m.

Come experience the Zoo after dark and spend the night! Scouts will investigate how plants and animals interact with each other through the food cycle and compare survival strategies of the fittest. We will also discuss how we impact the environment and how we can help protect it! This program is inspired by the Cub Scout Nova WILD! Award, but is great fun for any den or pack, whether you intend to go on to complete the award or not.

Overnights include evening snack and breakfast, a guided night hike through the Zoo, group activities, a up-close animal meet & greet, early morning Zoo tour, next-day Zoo admission, and glow-in-the-dark Overnight bracelet souvenir. Scouts sleep in the air-conditioned comfort of the Education Center at the Zoo.

Zoo Boo Member Morning

Hey Zoo Members! You can enjoy an extra hour of Zoo Boo on Saturday, October 20. The Houston Zoo will open at 8 a.m. so Members can get an early start on your favorite Zoo Boo activities, including the Whataburger Pumpkin Patch, the Monster Mural, and, course, candy!

Home School Special Edition: Monarch Migration

Monarchs are flying through our neighborhoods on their migration back to Mexico! During this program, students will join with Zoo staff to collect data and research these little wonders to help save them in the wild. We will learn more about them before actively catching and tagging monarch butterflies on Zoo grounds!

Please Note: Due to the delicate nature of activities included in this program, a minimum age limit of 6 years old is required. The maximum capacity for the experience is limited to 15 participants (adults & students).

Your adventure includes themed activities, educational encounter with program animals, an evening snack, night hike and morning stroll, and a light breakfast. We will be camping indoors in our air-conditioned Brown Education Center!
