Parking & Directions, The Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo is located at 6200 Hermann Park Drive.

The Houston Zoo does not have its own parking lot; however, free parking is available in Hermann Park. Remember, on holidays and beautiful days, parking can fill up fast, so make a plan before heading to the Zoo.

Once you arrive, you are welcome to enjoy the Zoo until we close. View current Zoo Hours.

Cambridge Street Roadway Repairs

Roadway repairs and street resurfacing are scheduled along Cambridge Street between Hermann Park Drive and Main Street beginning Sunday, August 16 at 9:00 p.m. Work is expected to continue for approximately three weeks, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, weather permitting.

Traffic will remain open throughout construction, but lanes may be restricted at times.

Parking Options & Alternatives

Medical Center + Museum District Parking

If you can’t find public parking, there are several surrounding parking garages where you can pay to park. You can even reserve your spot before heading to the Zoo by using the ParkWhiz App. Rates vary for each garage.

Hermann Park Parking

Guests may park in the closest lots to the Zoo: G, F, E, H and I as indicated on the Hermann Park Parking Map. These options are an estimated 5-10 minute walk to the Zoo’s entrance.

An additional parking option is the Centennial Gardens, Lot C on the Hermann Park Parking Map. This lot is an estimated 15-20 minute walk to the Zoo’s front entrance. It is limited to three-hour parking and is accessed from outside the park at Hermann Dr. and Crawford St.

Hermann Park allows bus parking ONLY in designated areas on Hermann Park Drive curbside, and parking lot A across from HMNS.

Ride the METRORail

Another convenient way to travel through the Museum District is to ride the METRORail. To get to Houston Zoo, you’ll need to ride the Red Line, exit Memorial Hermann Hospital/Houston Zoo, and walk through the Commons in Hermann Park to get to the Zoo. This is an estimated 10-minute walk to the Zoo from this METRORail stop.

Alternatively, you can ride the Red Line, exit Hermann Park/Rice U, and walk through the Japanese Gardens.

Use your favorite “rideshare” app on your next visit to the Zoo. These services can drop you off and pick you up right at our main entrance, located at 6200 Hermann Park Drive, and you can save time and eliminate parking hassles with this convenient solution.

Hermann Park Dr. is closed; how do we get to the Zoo?

When traffic is heavy in Hermann Park, city police officers will make Hermann Park Drive one way, preventing vehicles from turning into the park from Cambridge. When this happens, consider driving to offsite parking as lots in the park are likely to be full. To get into the park, continue on Cambridge until you arrive at Fannin. A right on Fannin or Main will take you to a roundabout; turn right onto Hermann Park Drive and continue through the park to reach the Zoo.
