Northern White-Cheeked Gibbon

White-cheeked gibbons are critically endangered, and their numbers have declined by 80 percent or more over the past 45 years, primarily due to habitat loss and poaching. The Houston Zoo is helping save primates around the world (Asia, Africa, South America) by working to mitigate human-wildlife conflict by investing in local communities, equipping anti-poaching patrols, protecting and restoring habitat through reforestation initiatives led by locals, and providing for expert veterinary care to heal and rehabilitate sick and injured primates.
