Thai’s 60th Birthday Bash

Saturday, June 14-Sunday, June 15

Thai Turns 60

Our oldest male Asian elephant, Thailand, affectionately known as Thai, turns 60 on June 16! Join us for a weekend bash ahead of his actual birthday where we’ll be celebrating with his animal care team with birthday-themed enrichment and more. It’s the perfect weekend to celebrate Father’s Day and Thai’s big birthday.

We encourage guests to wear tie-dye to join in on the 60s-themed fun! Guests will also have the chance to get a limited-edition tie-dye conservation bracelet or a Thai birthday button on Sunday. Limited quantities will be available.

Thai's History

Thai’s life is a remarkable story of longevity, legacy and lots of personality. Thai came to the Houston Zoo in 1980. Since then, Thai has become an ambassador for his species and a central figure in the Zoo’s multi-generational elephant family. Of his 60 years, he has spent the last 45 years inspiring generations of guests and staff at the Zoo while ensuring the future for his species. Thai is the father of six members of the Zoo’s herd (Tupelo, Joy, Tilly, Nelson, Teddy and Kirby) and grandfather to one (Winnie).
