Engineering with Animals

Ideal for 3rd – 12th Grade Educators

Explore animals and their engineering skills at the Houston Zoo! Come learn how zookeepers and conservationists use engineering and problem solving to create natural environments and enrich the lives of the animals who live here and in the wild.

Ideal for All Grade Levels

Want to turn your classroom scientists into Citizen Scientists?  Then come learn how!  Citizen science creates opportunities for children and adults to work collaboratively with scientists to learn more about wildlife. The activities in this workshop will help students of ALL ages gain a sense of community and place, apply the scientific method and develop critical thinking skills.  Grab your students and binoculars and head outside to take part in science!

How to Lead a Wild Classroom

Ideal for PK – 8th Grade Educators

Discover how to help your students fall in love with nature! Studies have shown that children who play and learn outdoors in nature are healthier physically and mentally, do better in school, and have better self-discipline than their counterparts who spend more time inside. Through this workshop, teachers will learn new techniques to help create meaningful connections between their students and the natural world.  Let’s make your classroom WILD!

Making Science Meaningful with PBL
Thursday, December 7
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Ideal for 5th – 12th Grade Educators

Wondering how to teach engaging scientific content and increase your students’ college and career readiness skills?  In this workshop, you will experience inspirational strategies for students to learn science content while building their 21st Century skills through a project-based learning lesson focused on wildlife found at the Houston Zoo.

*Participants will receive 6 hours of Science credit OR 6 hours of GT credit by attending this workshop.

Adopt an Animal for your classroom!


Your students will learn to appreciate wildlife on a deeper level through a symbolic adoption of one of the Zoo’s animal residents. With three different adopt levels and 20 different animals from which to choose, you are sure to find the adoption that is right for your classroom.

Ideal for All Grade Levels

Come  learn what the Houston Zoo has to offer at our annual Educator Day!  Learn about a variety of programs for all age groups as well as meet our science partners around the city and see what they have to offer Educators like you.  Take part in on-grounds tours and sessions on incorporating nature, wildlife and project-based learning into your classroom!  Registration includes admission to the Zoo, free resources, activities, and so much more!
