January 24 and 25, sea lions will be off exhibit while we perform maintenance on their pool.

Zoo Closed January 18 for Maintenance
January 18, 2017

The Zoo will be closed to the public on Wednesday, January 18th. This closure will allow us to tackle a number of maintenance projects throughout the Zoo that are challenging to accomplish while the Zoo is open to the public. We will close for one day, quickly and efficiently get projects completed, so we can continue to provide you with an exceptional experience on your next Zoo visit!

Recycling Rally
January 21, 2017

9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
At the Zoo’s Medical Center Entrance (not our main entrance)

Join the Houston Zoo, the NFL, the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, Verizon, and SHI for a Recycling Rally on Saturday, January 21. Bring your unwanted electronics and small appliances from home to support the Recycling Rally and help save animals in the wild!

When you recycle your unused handheld electronics, the materials in those devices can be reused, which reduces the need to get new materials from mines in Central Africa, home to animals like chimpanzees, gorillas, okapis, and mandrills.

Our Medical Center Entrance is on Cambridge Street across from Ben Taub Hospital. It provides convenient drop-off access for your recyclables (there is no parking at this gate).

Educator Workshop: Techie Teachers

Wild Winks Zoo Overnights – Spring 2017

Educator Workshop: Teachers as Field Researchers
March 22, 2017

Come learn what it’s like to be a field researcher at the Texas City Prairie Preserve! Participants will take part in marine seining, tracks and scat identification, and water quality analysis to collect data on local ecosystems. Teachers will be able to relate these hands-on activities to any outside area they have to work with.

Zoobilee
April 6, 2017 - April 7, 2017

Zoobilee is a Zoo-wide annual bash to celebrate and thank our membership. It is typically held on two evenings in the late spring, when we close the zoo early for non-members. In addition to having the zoo open just for members, there’s tons of fun to be had, including activities and special treats.
