Family Nature Experiences

Get outside this fall and explore nature together – at the Zoo! Our Family Nature Experience programs are designed for families and kids, typically ranging from ages 4-10 years old. With an experienced Zoo guide, you’ll explore and tour the Zoo while connecting with nature. Explore our fall topics below.

Program price: $30 per person
Program size: A maximum of 20 people

Program Benefits

  • Hands-on activities and games with Zoo guide
  • Ambassador animal meet and greets
  • Our daytime program includes Zoo admission for you to explore the Zoo before or after your nature experience
  • Explore the Zoo after hours during one of our evening programs where you’ll get exclusive access to see the Zoo at night with just other program attendees
  • Existing Swap Shop traders can bring their items to trade on-site. If you’re new to our Naturally Wild Swap Shop, learn more here.
  • Select programs may include a behind-the-scenes tour

On-site Fall Programs

Animals come in many different shapes and sizes which means what they eat can be very different too. Lets take a closer look into what are animals are chowing down on and what that means for the environment in which they live. See if you can find out which of our Zoo animals might have the same favorite food as you!

Animal homes can be just as distinctive as the animals that live in them. From meerkats and mongooses building vast underground tunnels to okapis hiding their babies in plain sight, animals use their environment to provide them with necessary shelter they need to thrive. Join other families as we explore the many different animal homes here at the Zoo.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Mask Policy

Adult and child participants are not required to wear a mask outside of select animal experiences, though the Houston Zoo strongly encourages all unvaccinated as well as vaccinated guests to wear masks while in doors and areas where you cannot social distance. All Houston Zoo Staff interacting with this program will have on a face covering.

The Houston Zoo policies are informed by current recommendations from local, state, federal health officials, agencies, and authorities, including CDC guidelines. As such, these policies may shift or change.

Essentials to Bring

  • Water for each person
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Appropriate clothing & shoes for the weather

Extras

Some nature exploration items will be provided by the Houston Zoo for each program depending on location and activities involved. Families are welcome to bring their own nature investigation gear, including:

  • Nature Journal & Pens
  • Binoculars
  • Field Identification Guides
  • Exploration Items (i.e. magnifying glass, insect net, nature journal, bug box)

Cancellations

We understand that sometimes unexpected things occur. Guests who provide a written notice of cancellation to education@houstonzoo.org on or before one week (7 days) prior to the program date will receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued after this date.
