Houston Zoo Welcomes Genuine Cup Athletes

The Houston Zoo was honored to welcome 1,400 athletes and their guests participating in the 2026 Genuine Cup for a special visit filled with connection and exploration. The Genuine Cup is a global tournament advancing inclusion through sport, bringing together athletes with intellectual disabilities (IDD) and autism from around the world. Representing more than 50 teams from 50 countries, athletes visited the Zoo following the opening ceremony.

Houston Zoo is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive experience where guests of all abilities feel supported. Lisa Peterson, Houston Zoo’s CEO & President shares “Watching them enjoy the carousel, explore Mythical Realms, and connect with our keepers was one of the best parts of my week. As a Certified Autism Center™ by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), moments like this are exactly why that designation means so much to us.”
