Wildlife Workshop

The Wildlife Workshop’s mission is to connect guests to their community of wildlife-saving heroes and provide opportunities to practice and grow personal wildlife-saving skills through direct actions.

About the Space

Wildlife Workshop, our former Swap Shop space, has been reimagined into a physical space for all ages where guests can come to collaborate, learn, celebrate, and share wildlife-saving behaviors.

Visitors will learn more about what the Houston Zoo is doing locally to save wildlife and have the opportunity to join us with various projects. Our interpretive team will be joining guests during these opportunities, offering a familiar face and encouraging guest participation.

Building hours: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Help Us Save Turtles in the Wild!

Date: Saturday, July 19
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Wildlife Workshop Activities

Guests will help create seed balls using clay mud and native seeds. These can be used to help propagate prairies around Houston or can be taken home by guests to help birds and pollinators at home.

Guests will help replant native habitat all over the greater Houston area, starting with young sprouts, helping them to grow and thrive.

Guests will create and decorate animal-shaped clings out of contact paper. They can take these home to help their windows at home become more bird-friendly. They will also learn about how Houston Zoo uses bird-friendly glass to help protect wild birds at the Zoo.

Guests will create reusable bird nest material holders, learn what kinds of materials make the best bird nests, and be able to fill their holders with material to take home and help protect local birds by offering nesting material that is non-toxic and won’t cause entanglement issues.
