2025 Conservation Successes
In 2025, the Houston Zoo and its global partners made powerful strides for wildlife. Together, we protected habitats, rescued imperiled species, and strengthened communities working on the front lines of conservation.
Highlights from the year include:
- Restoring ecosystems across Madagascar, Rwanda, and the Galápagos through tree planting, habitat restoration, and youth conservation training.
- Protecting Texas wildlife, including rescuing and rehabilitating 149 wild sea turtles, hatching and releasing 87 Attwater’s prairie chickens, and releasing nearly 1.6 million Houston toad eggs into the wild and cleaning Texas habitats with the removal of 4,827 pounds of litter, reducing threats to native wildlife.
- Combating wildlife trafficking, with 36 Sunda pangolins rescued and returned to the forest in Malaysia.
- Supporting communities by training 220 volunteers in safe snake‑handling practices in India, partnering with 3,808 households in the DRC on sustainable farming, and certifying 120 Brazilian beekeepers in armadillo‑safe practices.
More than 900 Zoo staff and volunteers contributed to these successes, driving our mission forward and inspiring action to save wildlife.
