Remembering Red Panda, Také

Také the red panda at the ZooToday, we said goodbye to our beloved red panda, Také (Tahk-ay). Throughout the year, we have been working closely with our veterinary team to monitor Také’s health and address multiple medical conditions. Despite our best efforts his overall health and quality of life were not improving. After many difficult and heartfelt discussions between our veterinary and animal care teams, the decision was made to humanely euthanize Také.

At 16 years old, Také far exceeded the typical life expectancy for red pandas (8-10 in the wild). This incredible milestone is a testament to the exceptional care he has received from his dedicated team over the years. Také was more than just a red panda, he was a favorite among guests and staff alike and a wonderful ambassador for his species. His curiosity and spirited independence made him all the more endearing when he would never hesitate to tell keepers exactly what he wanted.

Také brought joy to thousands of visitors and touched the hearts of everyone who worked with him. We are grateful for every year we had with him, for the smiles he inspired, and for the opportunity to share his story with our community. As we say goodbye, we remember the important role animals like Také play in inspiring actions to save wildlife. Red pandas are an endangered species, and Také helped connect countless visitors to the beauty and importance of protecting these remarkable animals.

Thank you for keeping Také, his care team, and everyone who loves him in your thoughts during this time.
