Zoo Lights – Details

Zoo Lights is closed for the season. We look forward to celebrating the holidays with you again! Check back here for more information about Zoo Lights 2017.

Will Zoo Creatures Be Stirring?

The star attraction at TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights is well…the lights! Warm up by ducking into the Kipp Aquarium and Carruth Natural Encounters and see the animals that live there. These buildings close at 9 p.m. so the animals can settle down for their long winter’s naps.

Recycle Your Holiday String Lights Here

Did you know that you can recycle your broken or old holiday string lights at the Zoo to save wildlife? You can! Just drop them in the Holiday Lights Recycling Bin at the main entrance of the Zoo. (Please do not include flood lights, timers or extension cables.

Tons of holiday lights end up in landfills, which spill over into animals’ natural homes. You can save wildlife by recycling your broken or old lights at the Houston Zoo during TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights. Bring in your unwanted strings of holiday lights to help protect wildlife.

The Houston Zoo has recycled more than two tons (4081 pounds) of holiday lights to date! We save wildlife by only using energy-saving LED lights during Zoo Lights. Our LED lights are using 85% less power than incandescent lights, allowing the Houston Zoo to conserve a lot of energy. Save money on your electricity bills and save wildlife by using LED lights at home!

LED lights = a win for you and a win for wildlife:

  • Cost saving: LED lights use less energy, so less cost on your electricity bill!
  • Safe: LED lights do not get hot
  • Better value: LED lights last longer
  • Save wildlife: LED lights use less energy which leads to a healthier environment for animals and people.
