Family Nature Experiences

Get outside and explore nature together! Each experience takes place at various parks and nature centers around Houston and is a great chance to find a new hangout for your herd.

These programs are ideal for all families, including those that home school, and provide opportunities to experience new places and connect with your local nature. Meet like-minded families and know that you’re providing your kids meaningful opportunities for exploration and play.

Saturday, May 9 - Sneak Peek of Houston Botanic Garden

Get a sneak peak of the Houston Botanic Garden! Officially opening in the fall, this space aims to become a beautiful and serene setting showcasing Houston’s vast biodiversity. Set aside some time for your family to enjoy a morning in nature and get a preview of this new institution!

Thursday, May 14 - Wildlife Walk at Mason Park

Located right along Brays Bayou, Mason Park boasts an impressive array of habitat and animals in it’s 104 acres. We will explore forests and wetlands, look for hawks and egrets, and use nature as inspiration for creating art to take home.

Saturday, June 6 - Fishing at Delores Fenwick Nature Center

Ever wanted to try fishing but didn’t know where to start? Here’s your chance! Join us for an evening of fishing with your family. Our experts will provide all the supplies, bait, and tackle; no license necessary!

We’ll be working with the wonderful staff at the City of Pearland Parks & Recreation Department for this experience. They will provide all the necessary equipment and will be walking us through an in-depth “how to fish” for first time fishermen, women, and kids.

What to Bring for a Hassle-Free Outing

Essentials: Water for each person, sunscreen, bug spray, and appropriate clothing & shoes

Extras – Some nature exploration items will be provided by the Houston Zoo for each program depending on location and activities involved. Families are welcome to bring their own nature investigation gear, including:

  • Nature Journal & Pens
  • Binoculars
  • Field Identification Guides
  • Exploration Items (i.e. magnifying glass, insect net, nature journal, bug box)
