Returning Zoo Crew

Returning teens age 13-17 who have completed one summer of Zoo Crew have the opportunity to choose how to be involved at the Houston Zoo!


Summer Zoo Crew

Program Choices Include:

Junior Zookeeper
Camp Mentor
Naturalist

Year-round Zoo Crew

After the summer, returning Zoo Crew have the option to continue on with their experience in the Year-round Zoo Crew program. Minimum requirements for Year-round Zoo Crew include:

Fall (October- January)

  • 2 days of Howlerween at Zoo Boo (the Zoo’s Halloween Event)
  • 2 days of Camp Mentoring

Spring (February- May)

  • 3 days as Naturalist
  • 1 day of Camp Guide or New Zoo Crew interviews

Other opportunities include:

  • Staff and Board Mentoring
  • Connecting with Conservation Partners
  • Spotlight on Species (SOS) events
  • World Lemur Festival
  • Naturalist station activity development

Returning Zoo Crew Program Fees

  • Summer only: $100
  • Year-round: additional $100

Teen Leadership Council

New in 2018 the Houston Zoo Teen Programs has created a Teen Leadership Council. This is a group of highly motivated Returning Zoo Crew members who will lead and mentor their Zoo Crew peers. This is an opportunity for Returning Zoo Crew to build leadership skills while providing insight into how we can improve the Zoo Crew program. Returning Zoo Crew in good standing can apply for the following in positions:

Leadership Council members will be required to attend 3 meetings prior to the summer, attend all 5 weeks of either Session 1 or Session 2 of summer Zoo Crew, and continue through the Year-Round Zoo Crew program following the summer.

To Apply

Complete the application by February 16, 2018. Interviews will occur during the week of February 18-24, 2018 and will be scheduled on an individual basis. Applicants will be chosen and given their preferred session based on their application, interview, and previous evaluations.

Saturday, January 27, 2018 11am-12pm
