Event Details

Don’t miss one of Houston’s best loved holiday traditions. Sip hot chocolate as you stroll through the beautiful Houston Zoo grounds and take in the sights and sounds of the season. Earth-friendly LED lighting illuminate our ancient oak trees and decorate the paths to light your way.

Interact with Candy the Zoo Lights Zebra presented by H-E-B, and get a selfie on the giant ice throne! You’ll also have an opportunity to take a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Add additional experiences like decorating your own yummy churros, making s’mores, and much more.

NEW for 2019:
Zoo Lights is 2x brighter! Stroll through a 100-foot-long, Infinity Tunnel of Light presented by KSBJ, wander through the 4-D Enchanted Forest presented by King & Spalding LLP, see a giant Ice Dragon come to life, experience “snow” in Winter Wonderland presented by Houston Methodist, plenty of new photo ops, and much more!

Group Tickets
A minimum purchase of 20 tickets is required for group tickets. Tickets are priced at $15 each and this discount is only available online. Group tickets are not available for purchase onsite.

Recycle Your Christmas Lights
You can help save animals in the wild and recycle your old or broken holiday lights at the Zoo’s main entrance.
Since 2016, 18,757 lbs of holiday lights were recycled, the weight of approximately two female Asian elephants!   

Just by attending TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights, you are helping save animals in the wild.

Thursday, November 21
7:00-10:00 p.m., last entry at 9:00 p.m.

Enjoy Zoo Lights without the kids! Stroll through the Zoo with your favorite Saint Arnold brew, wine, or spiked hot chocolate during this 21 & up event. Your Brew Lights general admission ticket includes two free 12 oz pours of Saint Arnold beer!

TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights: VIP Experience
Saturday, December 7
See the animals at the Zoo during the day and get early access to Zoo Lights! Your VIP ticket gets you daytime Zoo admission, a VIP reception at Cypress Circle Café, and exclusive access to Zoo Lights before the public. The VIP reception includes dinner, the opportunity to take a picture with Santa, and more!

Ugly Sweater 21 & Up Night

Will I be able to see animals during TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights?

During Zoo Lights, the main attraction is enjoying our brighter light path and animal-themed displays. Our Zoo animals will be enjoying a full night’s slumber. To see our animals, visit the Houston Zoo during the day. 

Is TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights open to the public every day between November 23-January 12?

You can see all available Zoo Lights event dates when you buy your tickets. Please note that Zoo Lights will be closed to the public on the following dates:

Dec. 4 Private Event
Dec. 24 & 25: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
Jan. 9: Private Event

Zoo Lights will be open to the public on the following dates:
Nov. 28: Thanksgiving
Dec. 7: VIP Ticket Event
Dec. 18: Galactic Night

Do I need to buy a separate ticket for a child?

Children ages one and under are free. You will need to buy a separate ticket for children above the age of one.

Are there special discounts for Military, First Responders, or Educators?

Military, First Responders, and Educators are all eligible for a $3 discount off admission on the dates listed below. To apply the discount, guests will need to present their professional ID at the gate.

  • Military Mondays – Dec. 2, 9, and 16
  • First Responder Tuesdays – Dec. 3, 10, and 17
  • Educator Thursdays – Dec. 5, 12, and 19

 

What food and drink options will be available?

Along the Zoo Lights path, you’ll encounter plenty of yummy holiday treats including s’mores, churros, and hot chocolate! Our Cypress Circle Café and BBQ Food Truck will also be operating during Zoo Lights hours.

Where should I park?

Our main entrance is at 6200 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, Texas 77030. The Zoo’s Medical Center entrance will not be open, so be sure to go to the main entrance for entry. The Houston Zoo does not have its own parking lot; free parking lots in Hermann Park are outside the Zoo, but parking can fill up quickly. View more parking options

Guests are encouraged to use your favorite rideshare app such as Lyft or Uber. These services can drop you off and pick you up right at our main entrance, and you save time and eliminate parking hassles with this convenient solution.

 

Is there additional parking or shuttle service?

Our shuttle will operate only on the dates listed below. Guests may park at the South Extension (SE) Lot at 7100 William C. Harvin. Parking is $7 per car and includes a free shuttle to the Zoo. Easy in, easy out! Last entry to this parking lot is at 9:00 p.m.

  • Dec. 1, 4, 6-8, 13-15, 19-22, 27
  • Jan. 11

What is the suggested attire?

Please remember that you will be outside and walking, so dress appropriately.

Will there be a sensory-friendly Zoo Lights night?

Yes, it will be held on Jan. 6. Stay tuned for more details.

What if I need to cancel prior to the event?

All payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

What is the rain plan?

This event is rain or shine. 

Do I need to print my ticket(s)?

Present the digital ticket on your mobile device to scan for entry. By going paperless, you are helping save local animals, like black bears, in the wild!
