Twilight Safari: Wetland Pajammie Jam
(4-6 year olds)

Experience the Zoo in a new light and without the crowds! Discover which animals are headed to bed and which ones are just waking up on a sunset adventure.

Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. -8 p.m.

Grab your pajamas and join us as we go bouncing through the bayou. We’ll get up close with some of our most treasured Texas natives and listen as the night comes alive with a chorus of wetland creature sounds!

This adventure series takes families with children ages 4-6 years old on a brand-new journey discovering the Zoo after hours and the nighttime habits of our nocturnal animals. Designed to introduce families to evening and overnight opportunities, this action-packed program will include a staff-guided night hike in the Zoo, activities intended to inspire play and exploration, and up-close encounters with Ambassador Animals. For guest and animal safety, twilight safaris will take place front-of -scenes only.

Please review the twilight safari exploration checklist and program information included below prior to registering.

Registration is now closed.

Exploration Checklist: Twilight Safari

Arrival

Your Twilight Safari begins at the Brown Education Center at Gate 8, which is located to the left of the main entrance. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Gate 8 will be locked promptly at 6:30 p.m. at the start of the program.  Participants will not be permitted after 6:30 p.m. No exceptions or refunds will be made.

Please note the free parking lots around the Houston Zoo are owned and managed by the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department and have no affiliation with Houston Zoo. We are unable to reserve spaces for our program participants. Be sure to allow plenty of time for parking and arrival.

Hermann Park Drive is closed; how do we get to the Zoo?

When traffic is heavy throughout Hermann Park, officers will close Hermann park drive from traffic turning north off of Cambridge. If you are attempting to reach the Zoo and Hermann Park Drive is closed, continue on Cambridge until you arrive at Fannin. A right on Fannin will take you towards a roundabout that will allow you to turn southbound onto Hermann Park Drive. If you stay on Cambridge all the way to Main St, you will have gone too far and may have to circle back.

What to Bring

Essentials: Water for each person (water refill stations are available throughout the Zoo), comfortable walking shoes for continuous activity and movement, weather appropriate clothes, bug spray (optional, but very useful on wet and warm days)

Extras: Your favorite Safari Hat and sense of Adventure! Due to the timing of this program, family-friendly pajamas are welcomed and encouraged –please just be aware of current weather conditions.

Note: We will be providing a light evening snack at the end of the program when we return to the Education building. Snack options typically include items such as pretzels, goldfish, chex mix, and veggie straws. Guests are welcome to bring their additional snack items to meet individual dietary needs.

Age Appropriate

Please be advised that we require one adult to every two children attending. All attending individuals must be registered and meet our minimum age requirement of 4.

Older siblings are welcome to register and attend any Twilight Safari; however, please keep in mind that activities are geared toward children of the program’s age group and may not contain age-appropriate activities for children outside that range.

Weather

Twilight Safaris occur rain or shine! However, if there is inclement weather and the class must be cancelled, individuals will be contacted directly by 2:00pm on the day of the event, and a full refund will be issued. Should the weather become inclement during a program, activities will be modified to maintain guest safety until the weather passes.
