Earth Day at the Zoo

Join us at the Zoo to celebrate Earth Day!

Saturday, April 22, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

About Earth Day

Join us at the Houston Zoo on April 22 in celebration of Earth Day! First began in 1970, Earth Day was a way to bring environmental issues into public consciousness. It is now celebrated internationally with coordinated events across nearly 200 countries. Earth Day even has its own flag!

This year the Houston Zoo and the City of Houston will have events throughout Earth Week (the week leading up to Earth Day) including multiple activities for Zoo guests on Earth Day itself, Saturday, April 22.

Event Highlights

Join Zoo volunteers and Zoo Crew teens for conversations and activities at the Reflection Pool. Since Earth Day marks the opening of Texas’ critical spring peak migration period for birds, this year’s Earth Day activities are spotlighting how guests can help save birds in the wild.

  • Make seed balls for pollinator-friendly plants that support local birds
  • Create window clings to prevent birds collisions with windows
  • Zoo Crew teens will highlight lights out efforts during migration periods and bird-friendly coffee
