Animal Encounter: Cheetah Walk

Animal Encounters are experiences you can schedule to add an extra-special memory to your Zoo visit. This exclusive experience is limited to just four people. If you have fewer than six in your party, you may be joined by other registrants, not to exceed six persons total.

Grab your walking shoes and join our keepers and animal ambassador cheetah on a morning trek before the Zoo opens to the public. Hear stories about our individuals and what Houston Zoo is doing to protect cheetahs in the wild.

Wednesdays from 8:15 – 9:00 a.m.

Members $195 per person
Non-Members $220 per person

Animal Encounter: Behind the Scenes at the Avian Conservation Building

Animal Encounters are experiences you can book ahead of time to add an extra-special memory to your Zoo visit. This exclusive experience is limited to just six people per experience. If you have fewer than six in your party, you may be joined by other registrants, not to exceed six persons total.

Join us in the first ever Houston Zoo behind-the-scenes tour of our Avian Conservation Building. Learn stories about what our keepers are doing in the wild to save birds as well as a fun opportunity to feed our chickens.

Mondays from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.

Members $65 per person
Non-Members $90 per person

During my undergraduate years at U of H, Shasta II and Shasta III were our mascots. Shasta II was retired early in 1965 as she a bit unruly. Shasta III was retired in 1977 due to ill health. Always enjoy visiting the zoo. Hard to pick a favorite animal but the great cats are very majestic.
