NEW: Zoo Sprouts!

The Houston Zoo values connecting kids to the natural world. We understand how important it is, when selecting a program, to consider a child’s development milestones. For this reason, our professional educators have three tailored tracks for your child to discover our Zoo and its amazing animals.

Members – $20 (ticket includes 1 child and 1 adult)
Non-Members – $38 (ticket includes 1 child and 1 adult)

While younger or older siblings are welcome in any class for an additional fee, please keep in mind that these programs are geared towards children of that specific age group and may not contain age appropriate activities for children outside that range. Please call the education department at (713) 533-6739 to inquire about purchasing an additional child or adult ticket.

Zoo Sprouts! 18 to 23 Months

Begin your journey into nature here. Join our education staff and other Sprouts as we feature our different animals. This program is designed specifically for 18 to 23 month olds and their favorite adult to spend time connecting with the natural world and each other. We will explore how our animals move while giving children the opportunity to mimic that movement. This program is sensory driven, with activities intended to develop fine motor skills, and will also feature the chance to meet and touch animals up close in each class!

These programs are 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Make this Zoo Sprouts a part of your Zoo visit; be sure to allow plenty of time for parking and arrival on Saturdays.

Outstanding Orangutans – Thursday, July 6 & Saturday, July 8
Swinging from the tree tops or walking along the ground, watch as our orangutans move in very different ways. See if you can spot what is the same and what is different between us and our orangutan friends.

Cool Cats – Thursday, August 3 & Saturday, August 5
Ready. Set. ROAR! Take a trip with us to see our largest feline friends. Catch a glimpse of Berani the tiger taking a dip in his moat and then bound over to view our lion sisters patrolling their habitat.

Zoo Sprouts! 2 to 3 Years

Continue the nature adventure here! Journey with our education staff and other Sprouts with their favorite adult as we explore the zoo. From the hands-on activities and meet and greets with some of our animal ambassadors, this program is designed specifically for 2 to 3 year olds. Let the adventure begin!

These programs are 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Make this Zoo Sprouts a part of your Zoo visit; be sure to allow plenty of time for parking and arrival on Saturdays.

Gentle Giraffes– Monday, July 10 & Saturday, July 15
What is tall, spotted, and has a long purple tongue? Come help us spot all fascinating things it takes to be a giraffe.

Rolling Rhinos – Monday,  August 7 & Saturday, August 12
Big, strong, and covered in mud, get introduced to our three white rhino boys and see if you have what it takes to join the herd.

Zoo Sprouts! 4 to 5 Years

Are you as agile as a cheetah? Can you walk like a giraffe? Set out on an adventure to uncover how some of our animals interact with their environment, and then see if you can act just like them! In this program, 4 to 5-year-old children along with their favorite adults will learn the insides and out of some our Zoo animals. Come interact with the natural world, play together and experience our animals!

These programs are 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Make this Zoo Sprouts a part of your Zoo visit; be sure to allow plenty of time for parking and arrival on Saturdays.

Amazing African Painted Dogs (with the Hunt Is On challenge)– Wednesday, August 16 & Saturday, August 19
