MAC HITS 2,000 POUNDS

He’s a Ton o’ Fun!

Actually it wasn’t that hard for Mac to reach the 2,000 pound landmark. Have you ever seen him eat? He’s got a very good appetite, a doting mother and Aunt, and keepers who think the world of him. 

Mac Facts:

Weight: 2,000 pounds. That’s almost as much as your car weighs.  Thai, Mac’s father tips the scales at about 12,000 pounds and his mother weighs about 7,000.

Birth Weight:  384 pounds. When he was born he broke the record for Asian elephant calf birth weights.

Diet: Although Mac is still nursing, he’s been eating solid food for over 18 months now. He receives the same basic grain diet as our adult elephants along with kale and and apple slices. He also likes to munch some hay and what we call browse –bamboo and hackberry leaves. And he really likes watermelon!

Favorite things: Well, food of course. But he also likes training with his keepers (because they give him treats as rewards), and playing with his toys. Some of his favorites are big rubber balls, a large aluminum barrel, and an elephant sized “wind chime.” But his all time favorite toy is his big tractor tire! And we want you to know, he didn’t take it off the tractor himself – his keepers gave it to him!
