The Houston Zoo has partnered with NASA to breed Attwater’s prairie chickens? The Johnson Space Center is home to a recently expanded breeding facility for our “space chickens.” Our birds needed a home & NASA had the “space” to accommodate them.
The Houston Zoo’s Conservation Department has state-wide and world-wide reach. From the Mbeli Bai Gorilla Study, Republic of Congo to our Houston toad recovery and release program here at home, the Houston Zoo’s conservation program is dedicated to developing relationships which connect people with nature and promote community education initiatives which support both the wildlife and the people who share their habitats.
The Houston Zoo’s Education Department offers classes for all ages – from toddlers to teens and seniors. The department’s 12 educators are dedicated to presenting engaging and interactive programs and provide a wide variety of resources for teachers and home school parents.
Ever wanted to the night at the Zoo? The Houston Zoo’s Wild Winks is a unique, after-hours Zoo experience complete with interactive activities, touchable animals, pizza dinner, continental breakfast, and free admission to the Zoo the next day!
