New @ The Zoo
Meet The Animals
Spotlight on Species is an event that connects the dots between the animals you visit here and the plight of their species in the wild. Keepers put together a day or sometimes an entire weekend of crafts, activities and talks about an animal or group of animals they care for, so you can get the inside scoop. The animals get special enrichment treats during the event, so you’ll see them enjoy anything from giant popsicles to a paper-mache sculpture filled with snacks they can investigate and tear into! Many animals we care for at the zoo are endangered in the wild, the victims of poaching, hunting or habitat loss. Spotlight on Species Events always includes answers to your questions about how these animals live in the wild and what you can do to help them.
Celebrate giraffes and learn more about these long-necked giants on the longest day of the year. Festivities included children’s crafts, giraffe bio facts you can touch, opportunities to meet the giraffe keepers, giraffe paintings, and more!
Populations of giraffes in the wild have declined 40% within the last 10 years. Giraffes are a very important species to their habitat and the other species of animals that coexist with them. All donations went to support the Giraffe Conservation Foundation.
