Scholarships for Camp Zoofari 2012

The Houston Zoo is offering an exciting summer camp experience for a select number of Houston’s children.  Throughout the summer, the Houston Zoo will make available 200 spaces for children to participate in Camp Zoofari free of charge.  Camp Zoofari is an action-packed, hands-on, week-long day camp for students ages 4-12.  Students learn about the natural world, wildlife conservation and the animals that call the Houston Zoo home.  Students will split their time between classroom and in-Zoo activities, and will be able to touch a variety of mammals, birds, and reptiles that are safe for handling.  Some older students may experience a behind-the-scenes activity.

This camp includes two complimentary t-shirts for the week, but does not provide lunch.  Students should have exemplary classroom behavior, a keen interest in learning and science (specifically animals), and passing grades.  Transportation is NOT provided and remains the responsibility of the participant.

Parents

  • Complete the online application in English or in Spanish.  An application must be completed for each child interested in attending camp.  All applicants are considered individually without regard to the submission of applications by friends or relatives.
  • The deadline to submit an application is Friday, March 9, 2012.  Only the first 500 applications will be accepted at which point the online registration system will close.
  • A separate teacher recommendation is REQUIRED for all applicants.  Teacher recommendations may be submitted by any of the student’s current teachers, but submission by the child’s science teacher is preferred.  Applications with no teacher recommendation will not be considered.  Student and school name on teacher recommendations must match the application.  Recommendations from relatives will not be accepted.  Teacher recommendations are due on Friday, March 9, 2012.
  • Applicants will be notified of their acceptance in writing by the Houston Zoo via mail or email by April 13, 2012.  Spaces are non-transferable.  All students not accepted will be placed on an alternate list and will be called should a selected participant be unable to attend.
