Saving Wildlife Expo

The Houston Zoo is partnering with the Wildlife Conservation Network to host an all-day conservation event here at the Zoo. Conservation leaders will speak about how they are working to save lions, tapirs, native Texas animals, zebras and sharks and rays at this full-day event.

Wildlife Heroes Celebration Saturday
March 25, 2017

Join us for a day filled with celebrating our very own Zoo heroes! Meet Houston Zoo staff who have led conservation projects in the wild, working with species from howler monkeys to elephants to corals. You can also meet with conservationists from around the world, including Belize and Africa, and learn about the work they do throughout the year to save these animals in the wild.

Plus, you can participate in activities throughout the Zoo and learn how YOU can help save animals in the wild!
This event is included with your Houston Zoo admission and is free for Zoo members.

Join us and find out all about local Houston-area snakes. Get a safe, up close look at local snakes in tanks we'll bring out just for this event. Myths and misconceptions abound when it comes to snakes, so come and learn the truth about them. What should you do if you find a snake in your yard, or in the wild? How are snakes an important part of our environment? Experts will be on hand to answer all of your questions!

Home School Program: Students as Field Researchers

Join the Houston Zoo and The Nature Conservancy at the Texas City Prairie Preserve! This day will be full of hands-on activities where students will have the chance to participate in field research techniques and explore native species in the Houston-Galveston area. Research activities may include: marine seining, insect sweeps, recording tracks and scat, testing water quality, identifying native plants, and bird watching.
