The Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park is open for the season, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. We do close for a portion of the day when the weather is below 70 degrees or due to thunderstorms, to protect your health and safety.

Today's Shows, Feedings, and Talks

Catch a sea lion show, see the elephants' bath, or maybe even touch a snake or an armadillo! We have more than a dozen Meet the Keeper Talks every day. Times vary; scroll to the bottom of this page to see Today's Schedule.

World Oceans Day
June 11, 2016

9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

It’s a well-known fact that the oceans make up a VERY large part of the planet we live on; oceans cover 71 percent of the Earth's surface and contain 97 percent of the Earth's water! Even more – we don’t know nearly as much about them as we’d like. Only about five percent of the world's oceans have been explored - there are still so many new animals and amazing environments yet to be discovered!

Make your ocean discoveries at the Houston Zoo during World Oceans Day! We'll have an activity table in the front plaza area. Check our Plan Your Visit schedule that day on the web, our kiosk or the Zoo App to find out when we'll have special Ocean Meet the Keeper Talks. And don't miss gazing at undersea life in Kipp Aquarium and in Carruth Natural Encounters.

World Oceans Day activities are free - included with your paid Zoo admission and are free to Zoo members.

Spotlight on Species: Otters
July 16, 2016

Join us for a special day featuring this water-loving small mammal! Otters live nearby in Texas rivers as well as marshes around the world, from icy arctic lakes to tropical wetlands. These intelligent creatures are primitive tool users, known to crack open a tasty shellfish by balancing it on their bellies and tapping it with a rock. The sad news is, otters in many areas are in decline due to habitat loss and water pollution.

Come out and find out more cool facts about otters, and what you can do to help them in the wild. Meet otter keepers and see our resident Asian small-clawed otters and North American river otters. More details will be provided closer to this event.

This event is free with your paid Zoo admission, and is free for Zoo members.
