Visitors May Cast Ballots to Name Mascot and a Chance to Win a Prize Package to be Awarded at October Free First Sunday

MFAH will introduce its new mascot: an elephant with a small antelope on its back, modeled after a sword hilt from the Glassell Collection of African Gold (early 20th century, Akan, Ghana).

Family activities from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Activities will take place at the museum’s Caroline Wiess Law Building, 1001 Bissonnet Street, and the Audrey Jones Beck Building, 5601 Main Street.
Don't miss art activities inspired by the African Gold collection, performances by the Intuitive African Dance and Drum Culture, free family films in Brown Auditorium Theater (Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears, Not So Fast, Songololo, and Anna from Benin), and voting on the mascot’s name for a chance to win a prize pack (the name will be announced at the October 5 Target Free First Sunday).
You'll also see the Houston ZooMobile with live African animals, collage-making focusing on sub-Saharan West Africa, and a Young Audiences of Houston performance of A Village without Music, which explores the impact music has had on Africans and African Americans.
