
Preventative Medicine - Tuesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 8
Have you ever wondered what it takes to keep animals like Tigers, Flamingos and Sea Lions healthy? In this series of Zoo Veterinary Medicine you’ll learn all about the daily care that goes into maintaining the health of some of the wildest animals around. From examining scat to routine checkups, training and teeth cleanings, Zoo Vets provide some of the most important routine services that keep our animals looking and feeling good. Join us at the Zoo for this exciting class and try your hand at some of these daily routines as well!
Emergency Care - Tuesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 15
Now that you have learned how we use preventative care to keep our animals healthy, what happens when there is an emergency? The Zoo has its own animal hospital where the Veterinarian team can perform surgeries, take x-rays, draw blood, or even write prescriptions for the animals. Join us as we learn about the tools, techniques, and tests that are needed in emergency animal care.
Now that you’ve learned about how we care for animals here that zoo, you can use some of the techniques at home with your own pets! Work on their behaviors and training so that their next visit to the vet isn’t scary, and learn how to look for signs of injury or illness. Also learn preventative care for your cats and dogs including exercise, a balanced diet, healthy teeth, and playtime! Then take that knowledge home and practice being a zoo vet with your own animals!
Creature Trek
This program is a hands-on, activity and experiment packed way to tour the zoo! Follow clever clues to exhibits you may not be familiar with and learn some brand new interesting facts about the animals that reside here. You’ll even get to paint your face like a Mandrill, conduct a respiratory rate activity or learn training games for the sea lions! Trek on over to the Zoo for this exciting new program, just for you!
March 1st-7th: Rainforest
The world’s rainforests are some of the hardest places to explore but you can learn all about these animals at the Houston Zoo! Discover the obstacles this wildlife faces and how they survive in the habitat with the most biodiversity and competition.
April 1st-7th: Grasslands
Living in the open grasslands can be a dangerous and hard place to live. Take a savanna safari through the Zoo and learn how these animals hide from predators and work together to survive!
May 1st-7th: Wetlands
Dive into the amazing ecosystem known as the wetlands and witness the variety of animals from fish to mammals that call this habitat home!

Is your group visiting the Houston Zoo and you want to take a program? The Houston Zoo offers programs for school-aged children Monday through Friday in the morning and early afternoon. All programs require a minimum of 10 participants.

The Houston Zoo ZooMobile is an outreach program that can come to you. Each visit features animal artifacts and live Houston Zoo animals. There are programs for all age groups and a variety of topics. Programs are not available in a private residence, but can be held in a church, library, or community center.
