Houston Zoo’s First Ever Home School Day

Join Houston Zoo Education Staff in exciting day of animal programs, interesting biofact discovery, live animal encounters, and guided Zoo tours. There will be many presentations every hour and opportunities to meet and learn about some exciting Houston Zoo animals.
Home School Night Prowl

Enjoy the “dark side” of the Zoo, an entirely different adventure than a visit during the day! A Night Prowl is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and includes lots of hands-on activities and animal viewing.
$20 per person
Home School Overnight
December 6, 2008
A Wild Winks is an extended opportunity to explore the Zoo that includes additional interactive activities, touchable animals, dinner, continental breakfast, and admission to the Zoo on the second day of the program.
$45 per person
Home School Individual Classes
Students can sign up for Home School Individual Classes. Series Classes are related, but students may take any number of classes in each series.
All classes are from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Curriculum is designed for K-8th.
$15 per student per class.
Registration includes participant only. Classroom space is limited and reserved for student participants first. Adults and siblings are welcome to join on-grounds activities or enjoy the Zoo on their own. If classroom space is available, the are welcome to sit in. General Admission applies to non-participants.

Nature Detectives
From footprints to pellets, follow the trails that animals leave behind! Participate in hands-on activities that will allow you to think, observe, question, and investigate like a true nature detective.

Water, Soil, Science
What elements are found in ocean water and how are they different from fresh water? Find out what nutrients are in soil and which ones are needed for plant growth. Observe effects of pollution on the environment around us and test your ability to clean up a mess. Through hands-on activities you will be able to answer all these questions.

Be a Keeper!
Ever wonder what it’s like to work at the zoo? Well this is your chance! Come join us as we explore the daily work of a zookeeper! We will learn how they train, feed, and provide entertainment for our zoo residents.
