Artwork Auction to Benefit Haiti Recovery

Thank you

On March 1, 2010, the Houston Zoo presented two paintings by our resident elephant and orangutan artists. Both works of art were listed on e-Bay with the goal of raising funds for Haitian earthquake relief.

At mid afternoon on March 11, 2010 when the bidding closed the auction had received 53 bids and had raised more than $1,000 dollars.

We are deeply grateful for the generosity of the winning bidders and offer heartfelt thanks to everyone who took time out of their day to place a bid and contribute to the international effort for Haitian earthquake relief.

The auction was featured in the Houston Chronicle’s March 11 issue in an article by Allan Turner with photos by Chronicle photographer Karen Warren on the front page of the paper’s City & State section.  We would be remiss if we did not express our gratitude and thanks to Allan, Karen and their editors and acknowledge the power of the press, the printed word and visual image.

For the elephants and the orangutans, for the Houston Zoo keepers who care for these amazing animals – from everyone at the Houston Zoo, we offer our thanks to all who contributed to this effort.

Our orangs and elephants have created 2 unique, beautiful paintings which we are auctioning off on eBay. All proceeds from this painting will go to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
