Big changes are underway at the Houston Zoo’s front entry plaza

Construction has started on a $15 million Hermann Park renovation project.

A project of the Hermann Park Conservancy and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, the renovation will mean the year-long closure of the Lake Plaza, the open area between the old Hermann Park mini train station and the Zoo’s admission booths.

The Lake Plaza is now closed from the edge of Parking Lot A (the large white area next to the red area marked #3 on this map to McGovern Lake.)

A protected walkway has been created for pedestrians from Parking Lots B and C (the red area marked #3 on the map) providing access to the main entrance of the Zoo.

The requirements of construction logistics have reduced parking availability in both Lots A and B.  Two rows of parking spaces have been blocked off on either side of the tree line that separates Lot A from Lot B.
