Many foundations in Houston, both large and small, have generously supported the Zoo throughout its long history, starting with a donation of land from Hermann Brown in 1922. Foundation philanthropy has been a cornerstone on which the Zoo’s success has been built over the years. Many foundation partnerships have helped support the Zoo through numerous achievements, including new and expanded education and outreach programming, guest service enhancements, new state-of-the-art exhibits and attractions, improved animal care and enrichment, and much more.
Now, since privatization in 2002, and as the Zoo moves into the next critical stage of its growth, partnerships with local, regional and national foundations are even more important to the future of the Zoo than ever before. Solid foundation support is essential if we are to give the nation’s fourth-largest city the zoo it truly deserves.
