Flamingo Flocking

It’s the 21st century version of getting toilet papered… but it’s all in good fun and for a great cause.  Surprise family, friend, or foe with a yard full of bright, pink flamingos!

You can have a flock of these infamous plastic lawn ornaments migrate to the household of your choice within the greater Houston area.  When you order a flocking, Houston Zoo bird keepers will deliver the birds to unsuspecting yards, usually arriving unnoticed, under the cloak of darkness.  Imagine the priceless look on someone’s face when they discover these creatures taking sanctuary in their yard!  The recipient will be left with your personal message, care instructions and the email address for our flamingo rescue service.  For a designated donation, the keepers will return to capture and relocate the birds within 48hours.

Proceeds from the Flamingo Flocking program currently support the The Philippine Eagle Foundation. They are a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the endangered Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) and its forest habitat.

Information about The Philippine Eagle Foundation:

Organized in 1987, it had before that time been operating as a project undertaking research, rehabilitation and captive breeding. Staffed by highly trained and dedicated personnel, it has today involved into the country’s premiere organization for the conservation of raptors.

The foundation takes a comprehensive approach to conservation, engaging in the research, off-site and on-site protection, community based efforts, and public education to promote greater understanding and achieve results in the preservation of the eagle and its habitat.

CONSERVATION BREEDING PROGRAM

The program is directed at developing a viable gene pool and propagating the target species ex situ. The goal of this program is to release offspring back into the wild to help complement wild populations.

FIELD RESEARCH PROGRAM

Our research agenda is focused on investigating the many questions concerning the eagle’s behavior and reproduction, habitats, and other information on the eagle’s biology through the location of active nests and the monitoring of eagles in the wild. The program is also responsible for the retrieval and rescue of wildlife captured by local people.

CONSERVATION EDUCATION PROGRAM

This program targets urban and rural communities developing public awareness and understanding of wildlife conservation issues.

COMMUNITY-BASED INITIATIVES PROGRAM

We work with marginal income families in the uplands to build local capability in addressing issue impacting welfare and to provide them with sustainable economic enterprises as livelihood alternatives. We operate on the premise that long-term solutions to sustainable resource management involve the empowerment of the upland communities.

PHILIPPINE EAGLE CENTER

Nestled at the foothills of majestic Mt. Apo, the Philippine Eagle Center is the Philippine Eagle Foundation’s facility for the care and propagation of the endangered Philippine Eagle. Primarily a research facility, the center is also a vital education venue and a key tourist attraction where visitors are given a glimpse of the country’s forest ecosystem. The Center houses Philippine Eagles and many other animal and plant species that are unique to the Philippines. Guests have a chance to appreciate the beauty of the rainforest and interact closely with various wildlife through lecture, tours and engaging activities.

OUR MISSION

The Philippine Eagle Foundation firmly believes that the fate of the Philippine Eagle, the health of our environment, and the quality of the Philippine life are inextricably linked. We are therefore committed to promote the survival of the Philippine Eagle, the biodiversity it represents, and the sustainable use of our forest resources for future generations to enjoy.
