Houston Zoo Teens
Alternative Teen Break
Are you a teen that loves wildlife and wild places, and wants to help protect them for the future? Join the Houston Zoo as we do something about it! Alternative Teen Break is a week-long conservation education program for Houston area teens ages 13-17. Participants will spend their 2016 Spring Break learning about field research techniques as well as the science behind conservation.
Ten teens will be selected to participate in this program based on an application and interview process. Selected applicants must be able to attend two pre-trip meetings as well as the entirety of the trip.
- Saturday, February 13 from 10 am to 3 pm
- Saturday, March 5 from 10 am to 3 pm
(Parents/Guardians Meeting 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm)
- Tuesday, March 15, starting at 5:00 pm and ending on Saturday, March 19, at 9:00 am

2015 Teen Career Conference

Gain insight into animal-related career fields directly from Zoo staff and learn how to get involved through volunteer and internship opportunities at the Houston Zoo. Includes brief presentations by Zoo staff members and representatives from colleges and universities with animal-related fields of study. Light refreshments will be provided.2015 Schedule of Events

Parents are welcome, but must purchase a ticket.
Job Shadow Program
The Houston Zoo Job Shadow program offers high school students an opportunity to learn firsthand what it takes to make a Zoo run and experience what it is like to work at the Zoo. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and observe the daily duties of Zoo staff and volunteers to gain better insight into the career. They will learn about the animals and experience some real world applications of the subjects they study in school. Teen Volunteers – Summer & Fall Zoo Crew
The Summer & Fall Zoo Crew Programs are open to students ages 13-17 who seek to learn more about animals and conservation while gaining valuable job skills through a volunteer experience. The Zoo Crew provides youth a sneak peek at the daily operations of the Houston Zoo while simultaneously introducing them to the many different career options available in a zoological setting.
