Set in a lush 55 acre landscape in the heart of the nation’s fourth largest city, the Houston Zoo is home to more than 4,500 animals representing more than 800 species. The Tropical Bird House features dozens of the Zoo’s more than 800 birds in free flight. The Zoo’s Reptile House is home to a stunning diversity of venomous snakes as well as Blanco, one of only 14 white (Leucistic) American alligators. Youngsters enjoy the friendly goats at the McGovern Children’s Zoo’s petting Zoo, the playful otters in the Natural Encounters Building and the amazing great apes and monkeys at Wortham World of Primates. Join us as we take a tour of some of the highlights to be found in the 200 exhibits that make up your Houston Zoo.
