CZ closing early

Friday, March 31, the Children’s Zoo and Carousel will close early at 4:30 p.m. for a private event. Indoor gorilla viewing in the Great Ape Gallery will not open until 3:30 p.m. due to a private event.

Saturday, April 22, the Houston Zoo will close early in preparation of Zoo Ball at 5:00 p.m., last entry at 4:00 p.m.

Spotlight on Species: Local Snakes

10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Reptile House

Join us and find out all about local Houston-area snakes. Get a safe, up close look at local snakes in tanks we’ll bring out just for this event. Myths and misconceptions abound when it comes to snakes, so come and learn the truth about them. What should you do if you find a snake in your yard, or in the wild? How are snakes an important part of our environment? Experts will be on hand to answer all of your questions!

This event is free with your paid zoo admission and is free for Zoo Members.

Animal Egg Hunt

Join us as our animals participate in their very own Animal Egg Hunt! Our gorillas, meerkats, and even the elephants are receiving their own egg-themed enrichment throughout the day. Visit them at their habitats in the Houston Zoo and see them hunt, eat, and play with eggs of all sizes!

This event is included with your paid Zoo admission and is free for Zoo Members.

Daylight savings will begin on Sunday, March 12. We will shift to summer hours, open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., last entry 6 p.m.

Wildlife Heroes Celebration Saturday

Join us for a day filled with celebrating our very own Zoo heroes! Meet Houston Zoo staff who have led conservation projects in the wild, working with species from howler monkeys to elephants to corals. You can also meet with conservationists from around the world, including Belize and Africa, and learn about the work they do throughout the year to save these animals in the wild.

Plus, you can participate in activities throughout the Zoo and learn how YOU can help save animals in the wild!
This event is included with your Houston Zoo admission and is free for Zoo members.

10:00 a.m. Zookeeper Kim Klein at Elephants

10:30 a.m. Zookeeper Chris Bednarski at the King Cobra exhibit in the Reptile House

11:00 a.m. Educator DeAndra Ramsey at the Howler Monkey habitat, in Wortham World of Primates

11:15 a.m. Meet conservationists from around the world in these locations: Kipp Aquarium, Natural Encounters – Bat exhibit, Lions, Tapirs, and Zebras in the African Forest (with the Rhinos)

Noon: Zookeeper Mike Concannon near the Coral Reef exhibit in Natural Encounters

1:00 p.m. Zookeeper Sydney Fitzpatrick at the pollinator gardens near Giraffes

2:00 p.m. Educator Kate Unger at Sea Lions

3:00 p.m. Educator Liz Fries at the Howler Monkey habitat, in Wortham World of Primates

Carousel closing early

Tuesday through Friday, Feb 28 – Mar 3, the Texas Direct Auto Wildlife Carousel will close early at 4 p.m. for maintenance.

great ape gallery closed

Tuesday, February 28, indoor gorilla viewing in the Great Ape Gallery will close from 11:30 until 5 p.m. for a private event.

Kipp closed

Wednesday, February 22, Kipp Aquarium is closed for maintenance.

This makes me sick, people need to be more responsible

Excellent job taking care of our animals we all like to fish just remember that we do have wild life out there that is horrible that poor baby thank you all for taking it out looks very painful..... The Houston zoo is the most awesomeness zoo and I've been to a few of them.. You guys are awesome thank you..
