Marvel Character Appearances

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

You’ve read the books and seen the movies. Now meet your favorite superheroes in person at the Houston Zoo! Spider-Man and Iron Man will be at the Zoo on Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, to greet guests and pose for photos.

Wear your favorite superhero costume and bring your camera to capture all the fun! Make your way to the Brown Education Center at the Houston Zoo to meet these incredible Avengers. Parents take note – while Spider-Man and Iron Man will be out from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, they will take a few brief breaks during this time.

This amazing event is included in your regular Zoo admission and is FREE for Zoo members.

Enrichment Day

The Houston Zoo will be holding its annual Enrichment Day on September 19. From 10am to 3pm, guests can enjoy special Meet the Keeper Talks Presented by Phillips 66 to learn about enrichment at the Houston Zoo while watching the animals enjoy it at the same time! Guests can also participate in kid-friendly activities at Enrichment Central that are sure to entertain kids and adults alike!

This event is free with your paid Houston Zoo admission, and it is free for Zoo members!

Sea Lions Off Exhibit

Sea lions are off exhibit Monday and Tuesday, August 17-18, while we spruce up their habitat.

Photo Day

Join us for “An African Forest Safari” Photo Day as we highlight a few of our African Forest ambassadors!

7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Photo Day allows photographers of all skill levels a chance to visit the Zoo and take great animal photos, all before the Zoo opens. Enjoy the cooler morning weather and lighter crowd, plus see the animals at a time of day when they are most active. Also included is a continental breakfast.

World Elephant Day

It’s World Elephant Day! Join us in celebrating these magnificent animals. Elephants are the largest land mammals in the world and among the most intelligent animals on earth. Unfortunately, Asian elephants are also among the world’s most endangered species. At the turn of the 20th century, more than 100,000 Asian elephants roamed their native habitat. Today, only approximately 40,000 Asian elephants remain in the wild.

Walking tour of the Asian elephant barn for those who Go Gray for World Elephant Day!
Wear gray on your Zoo visit and get an inside look at our state-of-the-art elephant barn, plus talk with our Zookeepers, while the elephants are outside playing in the yard.

This event is free with paid admission and is free for Houston Zoo members!

Cool Nights: Under the Sea

Make a splash at the Zoo and learn all about our marine animals and how you can keep them and their ocean homes healthy. Plus, this night only, the Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park will stay open late!

After enjoying Cool Nights, head across the street to Miller Outdoor Theatre and join the Asia Society Texas Center for musical performances by Daniel Ho & Taiwu Children’s Ancients Ballads Troupe. Accompanied by the pure voices of Taiwan’s Taiwu Children’s Ancient Ballads Troupe, Daniel Ho performs moving reinterpretations of the Troupe’s traditional love songs from their collaborative album To and From the Heart.
