Bear Awareness Day

10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Join us for Bear Awareness Day and learn the right and wrong ways to camp in bear country. We’ll pitch a “good” and a “bad” camp on the lawn next to the Gerenuk exhibit. The bears will be receiving a variety of enrichment items throughout the day, including ice pops and fish!

Find out some cool bear facts and how you can help save bears in the wild. There will be bear masks for kids to color and biofacts to touch and examine. There will also be some cool bear-themed gifts for sale.

All activities will be happening in or near our bear habitats in the Carnivores section of the zoo.

This free event is included with your paid zoo admission and is free for zoo members!

Putting for Prairie Chickens

April 4 & 5
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

This event offers fun prairie-chicken themed games and the chance to find out more about this rare bird from our local area. Come and try for a hole-in-one on our mini golf course!

This endangered bird is a native Texan, and it’s vanishing from the coastal prairies of Texas. The Houston Zoo is helping to save them from extinction by managing a captive breeding program; we have breeding facilities both behind the scenes at the Zoo and at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. The Houston Zoo has released a total 874 Attwater’s prairie chickens into the wild so far!

Look for this event on the lawn opposite Meerkats. All proceeds benefit the Attwater’s Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge.

This free event is included in your paid zoo admission, and is free for Houston Zoo members!
