Lion Fun Days

Having a roaring good time October 1st-2nd
9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

It’s hard to believe, but the African lion is in trouble. The population of African lions is falling at an alarming rate, with an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 lions left in all of Africa. Field researchers and conservationists believe the decline can be slowed and eventually reversed through community outreach and education. That’s where you come in!

On October 1st and 2nd the Houston Zoo will host its 6th annual Lion Fun Days. From 9am -2:30pm in front of the lion exhibit, Zoo guests can take part in games, keeper interactions, face painting, and most importantly having fun while learning about conservation. Lion Fun Days originated in the Niassa Reserve Mozambique as a part of the educational outreach program of the Niassa Lion Project. Around this time of year, 300+ children and their families in Mbamba village (located in northern Mozambique) will participate in Lion Fun Days as well. Mozambican children will play the same games and hear the same information as the children at the Houston Zoo. The partnership between the Houston Zoo and the Niassa Lion Project is strengthened by Lion Fun Days and getting children involved in conservation.

Meet the Keeper Talk, crafts and games are included in your Zoo admission and Zoo membership.

If you want to have a part in saving the African lion, come visit the Houston Zoo on October 1st and 2nd and learn how.
