Binturong Spotlight on Species (SOS)

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The binturong is also known as a bearcat, which you might know as a popular university mascot. But this long-haired mammal is neither a bear nor a cat; it’s a member of the civet family originating in Southeast Asia. There they are under threat in the wild from deforestation and palm oil plantations.

Our binturong Hannah is zoo-born and raised, and will be coming out for this special event to do some training exercises with her keepers. Come find out all about them and see Hannah the binturong! We’ll have some binturong-themed activities for you to join in!

Look for the event on the lawn opposite the meerkat habitat. This event is free for zoo members and included with your paid zoo admission.

Tapir Spotlight on Species (SOS)

10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Join us for a Spotlight on Species all about the tapir! Throughout the day we will have fun activities for everyone to play, a photo op with our “camera trap”, and a chance for you to help provide enrichment to our very own tapir, Noah!

The Houston Zoo is home to Noah, a Baird’s tapir. There are four species of tapir, including three Latin American species: Baird’s, Lowland, and Mountain. (The Malayan tapir is the only species that is located in Asia.)

The Houston Zoo partners with the Tapir Specialist Group to support field research of these incredible animals. Come by our tapir yard to learn all about tapirs and how the Houston Zoo helps them in the wild!

Look for the event at the tapir habitat, located near the #10 on your zoo map. This event is free for zoo members and is included with your paid zoo admission.

Party for the Planet

Join us for a Party for the Planet and learn how protecting our environment saves wildlife! We will have plenty of activities, crafts, music and more to make this Earth Day memorable.

All Party for the Planet activities are included with your paid Zoo admission. This event is free for Zoo Members.
