Galveston Beach Clean-up

Saturday, July 11
8:00 – 10:00 AM

The Houston Zoo is hosting a beach clean-up and we want your help! Plastic and trash on any coastline makes its way to the ocean where it’s harmful to marine life because they can ingest it or become entangled in it. The Houston Zoo wants to be part of the solution and remove trash from Galveston Island.

Sign up to participate and receive more information by emailing Shayla Andreas.

Snow Day

Back by popular demand, Snow Day is returning to the Zoo on Saturday, August 22 thanks to TXU Energy Presents Chill Out at the Houston Zoo! Guests can enjoy this winter wonder from 9:00 a.m. until noon (or until the Texas heat melts it away).

We will have two snow fields; a smaller field for the little ones and a larger field for the bigger kids, so this event is fun for the entire family. Kids of all ages can create their own snowman, make a snow angel or simply enjoy the cold snow on a hot summer’s day.

All Snow Day activities are included in your Houston Zoo admission and are free for Zoo members. Don’t miss the last Snow Day of the summer!

African Ape Spotlight on Species

Saturday and Sunday, July 18 – 19
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
At the Great Ape Gallery (the combined indoor viewing rooms for gorillas and chimpanzees) in the African Forest.

Did you know something as simple as recycling your cell phone here at the zoo can help save chimpanzees and gorillas in the wild? Join us for our Spotlight on Species: African Apes to learn more about our great apes here at the zoo and how to help their wild counterparts.

During the event, you can exchange 3 cell phones or small electronic devices for a magnet painted by one of our great apes. Just turn them in to the primate staff working the event at the Great Ape Gallery in our African Forest and receive your prize!

We will be throwing a Christmas in July themed birthday party for our chimpanzees Abe and Charlie on Saturday and a 31st birthday extravaganza for our gorilla Chaka on Sunday. There will be lots of fun activities for the whole family, and the opportunity to support two amazing African Ape conservation organizations through the purchase of items painted by our very own Great Apes here at the Zoo.

This event is free with your paid Houston Zoo admission and is free for Zoo members.
