Peter and the Wolf presented by ROCO and IACT

The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (ROCO) and InterActive Theater Company return to the Houston Zoo on Sunday, January 19 for three afternoon performances of the revered children’s classic, Peter and the Wolf. Presented by Martha Turner Properties, the interactive concert is free with zoo admission.

The story was originally intended to “cultivate musical tastes in children from the first years of school” and has delighted children for generations. An ensemble of ROCO musicians will play Prokofiev’s composition while actors from InterActive Theater Company narrate and act out the story. These performances will be part of a program that promotes understanding of Wolf Conservation.

The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (ROCO) is a professional chamber orchestra of 40 all-star musicians, distinguished guest conductors and dynamic composers who come together from all over the world to present engaging performances of classical and original compositions. Founded in 2005 by oboist, Alecia Lawyer, ROCO is the most fun you can have with serious music.

The InterActive Theater Company was founded in 1998 in response to a growing need for family theater and arts programming in Houston. InterActive Theater Company is Houston’s most engaging theater experience for family audiences, especially kids aged 5-13.

Teen Career Conference

Gain insight into animal-related career fields directly from Zoo staff and learn how to get involved through volunteer and internship opportunities at the Houston Zoo. Includes brief presentations by Zoo staff members and representatives from colleges and universities with animal-related fields of study. Light refreshments will be provided.

Zoo Beats at Whole Foods Market Kirby

On the last Thursday of every month, Whole Foods on Kirby will be donating all of the proceeds from Kirbside Bar sales to benefit the Houston Zoo’s conservation efforts!

Come out to the Kirby Whole Foods bar to learn how the Houston Zoo is saving animals in the wild all over the world.

Member Morning: Tropical Bird House

The Zoo will open one hour early at 8:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month for Members only. See animals just as they come outside for the day, a time of day when they are most active. You’ll also get a special Meet the Keeper Talk at 8:30 a.m. This event is always FREE for Zoo Members, and there’s no need to RSVP – just show up and enjoy!
