Attend fun-filled Meet the Keeper Talks and learn all about tigers as well as palm oil, a key ingredient affecting Malayan tigers in the wild due to its effect on deforestation and habitat loss in South East Asia.

Snow Day

Join us for Snow Day at the Zoo on Saturday, July 16 thanks to TXU Energy Presents Chill Out at the Houston Zoo! Guests can enjoy this winter wonder from 9:00 a.m. until noon (or until the Texas heat melts it away).

We will have two snow fields located at Karamu Outpost; a smaller field for the little ones and a larger field for the bigger kids, so this event is fun for the entire family. Kids of all ages can create their own snowman, make a snow angel or simply enjoy the cold snow on a hot summer’s day.

Plus, TXU Energy will host their cool scavenger hunt to each of the Zoo’s 13 indoor, air-conditioned buildings from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can pick up your scavenger hunt at either Zoo entrance upon arrival. Visit all 13 locations and redeem your scavenger hunt voucher for one FREE sno cone, thanks to TXU Energy!

All Snow Day and Scavenger Hunt activities are included in your Zoo admission and are FREE for Zoo Members.

White Elephant Sale

9 a.m. until noon
Masihara Pavilion (near the entrance to the African Forest)

Call it what you will – a rummage sale, a garage sale, a yard sale. We like white elephant sale. Whatever you want to call it, you’ll find bargains and some unique items at the Houston Zoo’s White Elephant sale. All proceeds benefit Houston Zoo Staff Conservation Fund that contributes to saving wildlife around the world.

We’ve scoured storage lockers, closets and offices across the Zoo for weeks now and Zoo employees have also donated personal items for the sale. We’ve collected hundreds of items, from books and lawn care equipment and tools to posters, small to HUGE decorative items, toys and t-shirts. Sorry. No white elephants.

The Fine Print:
All sales FINAL. No returns or exchanges. Cash or credit card only. Buyers are responsible for removal and transport of purchased items from the Zoo.

Entrance to this event is included with your regular Zoo general admission.

Rachel Davenport GomezWe loved Smaug and enjoyed watching him for years. My boys were devastated when he passed but were super excited to meet his nephew a few months later. He sure is feisty! He is a great addition to the Zoo.
