Comicpalooza at the Zoo for May the Fourth

9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

May the Fourth is a popular day to celebrate all things Star Wars, as a wordplay on the phrase “May the Force Be With You.” Join us to meet and greet a few of your favorite Star Wars costumed characters, courtesy of Comicpalooza. Come out and say hello!

Comicpalooza is “Texas’ Largest Comic and Pop Culture Event.” Find out more at

Spotlight on Species: Otters

Join us for a special day featuring this water-loving small mammal! Otters live nearby in Texas rivers as well as marshes around the world, from icy arctic lakes to tropical wetlands. These intelligent creatures are primitive tool users, known to crack open a tasty shellfish by balancing it on their bellies and tapping it with a rock. The sad news is, otters in many areas are in decline due to habitat loss and water pollution.

Come out and find out more cool facts about otters, and what you can do to help them in the wild. Meet otter keepers and see our resident Asian small-clawed otters and North American river otters. More details will be provided closer to this event.

This event is free with your paid Zoo admission, and is free for Zoo members.

Emilee MayberryI've never even seen them moving! They are always sleeping in the same spot. Maybe these new girls will revitalize the pack :)

Lilian CorriganIt's cool to see them so active. Whenever we visit the zoo they are usually just laying around.

It's #WildWednesday! We continue to celebrate our most recent additions to two endangered species: our baby boy Bornean Orangutan and two baby boy Fishing Cats. Staff is eagerly awaiting the day when we can invite the public to help us name these gorgeous little ones. Until then, we follow along with their development behind the scenes with the Jackson Zookeepers, who run our Instagram account:
