Hi, Carol. Many of the trees in the African Forest construction area have been relocated in root balls (above) out of harms way until they can be replanted once construction is complete or near complete. The horticulture staff tends to the trees daily to make sure they remain healthy.

Why are the trees being removed? If you are creating an African forest, would it not be more ecologically friendly to build around the established trees?
I am a second year member and have enjoyed expanding my love of photography and animals by photographing animals at the Houston, San Antonio, Minneapolis and Columbus Zoos.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any photos as I am happy to volunteer my services for FREE. I can also provide photos from the other zoos.
281-799-3039
