Our Giraffe Feeding Platform opens at 11AM and 2PM (weather depending). You'll be eye level with these gentle giants as you feed them leaves of lettuce.
4-D Experience shows this week include Dino Island, Dora the Explorer and Planet Earth: Pole to Pole.
Guaranteed to be a special day, the St. Vincent Parrot Spotlight on Species will take place on Sunday, September 4, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Located right near Stormy (the big blue bird bank) in Birds of the World, you can spot and join in all the festivites.
Why so special? Because there is only one place on earth that these birds exist: On St. Vincent Island in the Carribean. Short of going there to see this highly endangered species, your very own Houston Zoo is the ONLY Zoo in North America that has them on exhibit.
Keepers will be available the entire time to talk with you about this particularly beautiful species and answer all your questions.
At 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. see a special feeding of browse to the parrots!
There will be fun and craft tables doing including a Touch-and- See with biofacts and a coloring station.
There will also be all kinds of fun knick nacks for sale: photos, buttons, bookmarks made in the image of the rare St. Vincent feather, and more! All funds raised will go to benefit the Forestry Department of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
