Corporate Volunteer Program

The Houston Zoo depends on volunteers for assistance in many areas of Zoo operations. The Corporate Volunteer Program offers groups of corporate volunteers the opportunity to participate in the hands-on work of keeping our Zoo in top form. We also need groups of corporate volunteers to help staff our fun and popular events throughout the year.

Corporate groups work with our staff to identify the Corporate Volunteer Program projects for their volunteers. The Corporate Volunteer Program projects are designed to be enjoyable and fulfilling, and to give you and your employees a sense of ownership in the Houston Zoo. Projects may include landscaping, exhibit and grounds maintenance, special event preparation or special event assistance. Most projects require a half-day commitment to complete.  Some of our projects involve the opportunity to donate funds towards the purchase of necessary plants or other supplies, which allows the zoo to complete work that we otherwise would not have had the budget for.

It is best to schedule projects at least one month in advance to make sure dates and projects are available.  We prefer to schedule projects during the fall, winter, spring, and early summer to avoid the hottest months of the year, but special arrangements can usually be made to fit the needs of the group.

Another exciting way to get involved at the Zoo is to help out with an event at the Zoo. One event for which we always need help from our corporate partners and their volunteers, in addition to Earth Day in April and Zoo Boo in October, is Zoobilee, the Zoo's annual members-only celebration. Zoobilee is open to all Houston Zoo Members and their guests as a membership benefit. Volunteers are needed in such areas as member check-in, keeper chats, food and drink service, and passport stations.
