Join us for these fun-filled Friday nights!

Thanks to TXU Energy, the Houston Zoo is once again staying open late, until 8:30 p.m., so you can enjoy the animals in the cooler evening weather. Join us for Cool Nights every Friday evening from June 27 through August 22. From 5 to 8 p.m. guests can enjoy added music and kid-friendly activities that are sure to entertain kids and adults alike! All activities are included in Zoo admission.

July 25: Holidays in ZOO-ly

Candy canes, reindeer, lights and Santa beards? Sounds like Holidays in Zoo-ly! If you can’t wait any longer for the holiday season, visit the Houston Zoo on July 25 for lots of fun holiday-themed activities such as Pin the Nose on Rudolph, Penguin Shuffle and ornament decorating.  You can also embark on a scavenger hunt to find holiday items throughout the Zoo and take a few photos at our photo booth.

Guests will enjoy icy-cool entertainment including ice sculpture carving presentations by Reverend Butter and special Meet the Keeper Talks with the orangutans and cassowary. Be sure to join us this week as we impatiently await the most wonderful time of the year!

August 1: Let’s Kick It! A Cool Night with the Houston Dynamo

The Houston Zoo is teaming up with the Houston Dynamo to bring you one very-cool Cool Nights on August 1!  Wear your orange and come prepared for some futbol-style fun! Guests will enjoy special Meet the Keeper Talks with the Zoo’s swift fox, cheetahs and sea lions and family-friendly activities.

Plus, meet Houston Dynamo defender David Horst from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. and Houston Dash midfielder Kelly McFarlane from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m! Let’s Kick It! A Cool Night with the Houston Dynamo at the Houston Zoo will be fun for the whole family!

August 8: Adventures Under the Sea

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SpongeBob Squarepants! Join us this Friday night for a special Cool Nights to meet your favorite underwater sea sponge in person. Guests can meet SpongeBob SquarePants from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Brown Education Center – be sure to bring your camera to capture the moment. Then head over to the 4-D Experience* to watch SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D: The Great Jelly Rescue.

The adventures don’t stop there! Make a splash at the Kathrine McGovern Water Play Area which is staying open late for this night only. Guests will learn the importance of marine conservation and what the Houston Zoo is doing to protect the animals living in the ocean, as well as enjoy special Meet the Keeper Talks at the Kipp Aquarium and a piranha feeding in Natural Encounters. Don’t miss all of these adventures under the sea!

August 15: Buggin’ Out!

Giant bugs have taken over the Houston Zoo this summer, AND this week’s Cool Nights! We’re Buggin’ Out this Friday night, and you won’t want to miss it! Guests will enjoy special musical performances by local Houston artist Beetle, playing all of your favorite tunes from the Fab Four.

Kids can hop like grasshoppers, dig for bugs (don’t worry parents – they’re not real) and more! Join us for a special ladybug release at the beautiful Butterfly Garden and visit the new Bug House and wombat exhibit for Meet the Keeper Talks at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.  You can also get your face painted for $2 by the Greater Houston Chapter of AAZK from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The proceeds from this activity support Zookeeper education and wildlife conservation.

When you’ve finished buggin’ out, make sure to check out Extreme Bugs!* for a larger-than-life experience you won’t soon forget.

August 22: End-of-Summer Luau
