Out of Africa: The Chimpanzee

Chimpanzees

ChimpanzeeChimpanzees
(Pan troglodytes) are native to central and western Africa and their population is becoming fragmented as more humans infringe upon their habitat. Along with gorillas and orangutans, some scientists believe that chimpanzees are one of the closest relatives the human beings.

Chimpanzees are covered with black hair on most of their body and have senses very similar to humans, including sight, taste, hearing, smell, and touch. It’s common to see a chimp walking upright on two legs when carrying food or an object in its hands.

They are also known for being very intelligent primates. Scientific research has shown that chimps create and utilize tools for food gathering and consumption. Many studies have concluded that chimpanzees have sophisticated hunting strategies, interfamilial communication, and feelings of aggression and empathy.

Coming in 2010 to Phase One of The African Forest, chimpanzees will thrive in the immersive environment reminiscent of the forest landscape of western equatorial Africa.
