The Annual Drive to Support the Zoo

This Year Make a Lion's Day!

Make a lion’s day, give a holiday gift to our king of the jungle and his friends.

In this season of giving, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the animals at the Zoo. Earlier this month, Jonathan received a very special gift thanks to donors like you!

The Houston Zoo Animals Need You!

The 4,500 animals that are entrusted to our care are some of the most magnificent creatures on earth. They help connect the public with nature and make the world of wildlife conservation accessible to people like you. As a non-profit, charitable organization, we rely on generous community support to care for these animals and to protect their wild cousins around the world.

Please donate now; your gift, large or small, will make a big impact on our work here at the Zoo

Houston Zoo Annual Fund

This year when you make a donation to the Annual Fund, your generosity will support:
  • New animals — Help us bring new animals to the Houston Zoo, like Astro, a sea lion pup who was found injured in the waters off the coast of northern California.  Now, he lives happily at the Houston Zoo where his keepers shower him with attention and his favorite “fishsicle” treats.

  • Conservation — The Zoo is involved in more than 22 conservation projects in more than 10 countries.  In Borneo, the Zoo works with Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Project, dedicated to saving the last of these great apes. Here at the Zoo you can meet Rudi, our 20-year-old male orangutan.  He is a truly amazing face for his cousins who face extinction in the wild, and can be seen in his exhibit daily with the other members of our orangutan family.

  • Animal Care  —  All of our animals receive the best health care there is to offer.  Every day Zoo staff lovingly prepare meals that meet the nutritional needs of a wide variety of species at the Zoo. Our lions are provided with meat, our giraffes receive yams, kale and hay, and our sea lions feast on fish contributing to an annual grocery bill of more than $600,000!
