Meet & Mingle with the Animals
The Ambassadors Present The First Annual Winter Gala

HOUSTON ZOO “AMBASSADORS” EXPERIENCE NATURE AT NIGHT
WITH THEIR FIRST WINTER GALA

Nearly 200 guests found a cure for their cold weather cabin fever when the Houston Zoo hosted the inaugural Ambassadors Winter Gala on Saturday, January 30 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Members of the new Houston Zoo Ambassadors enjoyed a rare opportunity to mix and mingle with Zoo animals and the dedicated keepers who care for them.  Special animal guests for the evening included a wide range of species from the prickly (Ernie the North American porcupine) to the hard shelled (Tuck the three banded armadillo) to those with a heartwarming back story (Liberty, an American bald eagle who has lived at the Zoo since she was rescued by wildlife officials).

Highlights of the evening included a special appearance by the Houston Zoo’s carnivore keepers who wowed the Ambassadors with a presentation in the Brown Education Center auditorium featuring Kiburi, one of the Zoo’s cheetahs and Taji, one of the Zoo’s Anatolian shepherd dogs that share the cheetah’s exhibit.  After the presentation, winners of an instant silent auction were treated to photos with Kito, one of the Zoo’s cheetahs.  The winners of other instant silent auctions enjoyed behind the scenes tours of the Kipp Aquarium, met one of the Zoo’s baby Komodo dragons, and met and fed the Zoo’s adult Komodo dragon, Smaug.

Guests enjoyed handcrafted adult beverages from Republic Wines and St. Arnold’s, a great menu from Becks Prime Restaurants, The Chocolate Bar, Rainbow Lodge, Ruggles Green, and Solarus Catering, and music by the J. Wesley Haynes Trio.  Proceeds from the inaugural Ambassadors Winter Gala benefit Houston Zoo animal care programs. (To continue reading please click here)
